IELTS coaching for Kurukshetra students, in a classroom in Yamunanagar

Our classroom is not in Kurukshetra. It is at 519B Darshan Lane, Model Town, Yamunanagar — about 47 km and 40 minutes away off-peak. That is the journey, and this page is about whether making it makes sense for you.

Straight to it: we are not in Kurukshetra. Our address, on every page of this site and on the Google Business Profile, is 519B Darshan Lane, Model Town, Yamunanagar 135001. If you are looking for an institute right next to Kurukshetra University or in Sector 13, we are not it, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Kurukshetra has a massive IELTS coaching market of its own. We will never tell you blindly to "come to us instead". The distance is not the decider — the teaching method is. If a local institute in Kurukshetra satisfies your preparation needs, travelling 47 km is NOT worth it.

Two questions to ask any local institute in Kurukshetra

Before enrolling anywhere in Kurukshetra or deciding to travel, ask any institute these two specific questions:

  1. How often is writing marked, by whom, against the published criteria? Ask whether an experienced trainer evaluates your Task 1 and Task 2 essays against Task Achievement, Coherence & Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range & Accuracy, or if a assistant simply ticks pages and assigns a random score.
  2. How many minutes of speaking does each student get per session? In a crowd of 30 or 40 students, you might speak for two minutes once a week. Ask for a clear breakdown of actual one-on-one or small-group spoken practice time per student per session.

If your local institute in Kurukshetra gives solid, satisfactory answers to both questions, stay there. Travelling 47 km to Yamunanagar is NOT worth your time or money. However, if they offer batch sizes where individual feedback disappears, that is when looking further becomes necessary.

Cost of the tripBus or car travel. Daily round trips add up in both time and money.
Best patternFixed 2–3 days per week in person, or choose our one-to-one online batch.
What it is worth it forDetailed writing feedback by an 8.0 Band trainer and real speaking practice.
What it is not worth it forGeneric lectures, printed worksheets, or passive video sessions.

Come in person if

You can attend 2 or 3 fixed days a week for intensive, in-person evaluation. You want your writing marked in front of you by an 8.0 Band trainer with immediate feedback. You need face-to-face speaking drills to overcome exam hesitation.

Take the online batch if

You study at Kurukshetra University or work locally and a 47 km commute each way would disrupt your schedule. You want one-to-one coaching with the exact same trainer, live portal access, and flexible timing without leaving home.

What the batch actually does

Most of the session time goes on the two things that do not move without a person:

  • Writing — written under timed conditions, then marked against the four published criteria. Feedback on the criteria is worth more than a score, because a score only says where you are and the criteria say what to change.
  • Speaking — practised aloud and recorded. You cannot hear your own hesitation while you are making it, which is why recording it matters.
  • Listening and Reading — timed practice with an error review, because both are marked out of 40 and respond to technique quickly.

Our IELTS Practice Portal runs computer-delivered mock tests on the same interface as the real exam, with a band calculator and a text highlighter. The Grammar Portal covers the mechanics in Hindi as well as English, which is usually where a student actually gets unstuck. Both need the login you get when you join.

Timings, and how to fit the trip in

Monday to Thursday 10 AM to 4 PM, Friday to Saturday 10 AM to 2 PM, closed Sunday. For students coming from Kurukshetra, holding fixed days creates a settled timetable that makes long-distance preparation manageable.

If you have taken IELTS before

Repeating the same preparation rarely moves a score, because the same technique is being aimed at the same weak points. In most repeat cases it is Writing that is capping the result, because it improves least without feedback. The first session here is a diagnostic across all four skills, timed on a computer, and it gives four separate numbers rather than one overall score — which is the only way to see what is actually holding the total down. See our guides on writing task 1 overviews, task 2 essay structures, and speaking confidence tips if you want the detail before you decide.

Questions students from Kurukshetra ask

How far is Step Ahead Institute from Kurukshetra?
About 47 kilometres, roughly 40 minutes off-peak by road from Kurukshetra to Model Town in Yamunanagar. It is a distance that requires planning, which is why many Kurukshetra students opt for fixed batch days or one-to-one online coaching.
Why travel from Kurukshetra to Yamunanagar for IELTS coaching?
Kurukshetra has many coaching options, but distance is not the decider — method is. Students make the 47 km trip when local centres fail to provide regular individual writing correction against official criteria or guaranteed per-session speaking time.
Should I travel from Kurukshetra or take the online batch?
If you attend Kurukshetra University or work locally, travelling 47 km daily is not worth it. Take our one-to-one online batch instead. If you prefer in-person learning, coming 2 or 3 fixed days a week for intensive evaluation makes the trip practical.
How many students are in a batch?
Small, by design. We keep the batch below the point where written and spoken feedback stops being personal and becomes something selected out of a large class.
What are the batch timings?
Monday to Thursday 10 AM to 4 PM, and Friday to Saturday 10 AM to 2 PM. Sunday is closed. For students travelling from Kurukshetra, fixed days can be held so the trip becomes part of a settled weekly schedule.
Do you guarantee a band score?
No. What is real is the work: a diagnostic in the first session, writing marked against the published criteria every fortnight, and spoken practice every session. Your score also depends on the day you sit the test.
Is the IELTS test on paper still available?
No, it has been discontinued. Everyone now sits computer-delivered IELTS, which is why our practice runs on screen with the same interface and timer as the real test.
