IELTS Vocabulary — How to Learn 10 New Words Every Week

The 10 Words Per Week Plan

Most students try to learn 50 words at once and forget them all. The smart approach is to learn 10 words per week — deeply, not superficially.

The Weekly Schedule

Monday: Learn 10 New Words

Pick 10 words from a topic list. For each word, write:

  • Meaning (in English, not Hindi)

  • Part of speech (noun, verb, adjective)

  • One example sentence

  • One synonym
  • Example:
    Word: "Substantial"
Meaning: large in size, value, or importance
    Part of speech: adjective
Sentence: "There has been a substantial improvement in my English."
    Synonym: significant

    Tuesday: Practice Sentences

Write 3 sentences for each of the 10 words. Use each word in a different context.

    Wednesday: Speaking Practice

Answer 5 IELTS Speaking questions, using at least 3 of the new words. Record yourself.

    Thursday: Writing Practice

Write a short paragraph (100 words) about any topic using at least 5 of the new words.

    Friday: Review and Test

Test yourself: write the meaning of each word from memory. Check which ones you forgot and review them.

    Saturday: Use in Conversation

Use at least 5 of the new words in real conversations (with friends, family, or in practice).

    Sunday: Review All Words

Review all 10 words one more time. If you can remember them, move to new words next Monday.

    Topic Rotation

    Week 1: Education
    Week 2: Technology
    Week 3: Environment
    Week 4: Health
    Week 5: Society
    Week 6: Travel and Transport
    Week 7: Culture and Tradition
    Week 8: Review all words
