What Is Summary Completion?
In Summary Completion, you get a summary of part of the passage with gaps (blanks). You must fill each gap with a word from the passage.
Rules:
Step-by-Step Strategy
Step 1: Read the Word Limit
This is crucial. If it says "one word only," you can ONLY write one word. Two words = wrong answer.- What is it summarizing? (which part of the passage?)
- What's the main topic?
- Where are the gaps?
Step 2: Read the Summary
Read the summary carefully. Understand:Step 3: Predict Each Answer
Before looking at the passage, predict what kind of word fits each gap.Example: "The company was founded in _____ and has grown to _____ employees."
Gap 1: A year (number)
Gap 2: A number
- Keywords from the summary
- Synonyms (paraphrasing)
- The predicted answer type
Step 4: Find Answers in the Passage
Locate the relevant section of the passage. Look for:- Fit grammatically in the gap?
- Make sense in context?
- Follow the word limit?
Step 5: Check the Answer
Does the word:Common Mistakes
- Ignoring word limit — Writing 2 words when only 1 is allowed
- Not predicting answer type — Wastes time searching randomly
- Using synonyms — You must use the EXACT word from the passage
- Not checking grammar — The word must fit grammatically
- Spelling errors — The word must be spelled correctly
