Secret 1: The Examiner Wants You to Succeed
Many students think the examiner is against them. Wrong. The examiner WANTS you to do well. They're trained to help you show your best English.
What this means: Speak clearly and confidently. If you make a mistake, correct it and move on. Don't apologize or panic.
Secret 2: Writing Task 2 Is Worth More Than Task 1
Task 2 is worth twice as much as Task 1. If you're short on time, spend more time on Task 2.
Strategy: 20 minutes for Task 1, 40 minutes for Task 2. If you have 5 minutes extra, use it on Task 2.
Secret 3: You Don't Need to Understand Every Word in Reading
You can score Band 7+ without understanding 100% of the passage. Focus on the questions and find answers through skimming and scanning.
Strategy: Don't read every word. Use the questions to guide your reading.
Secret 4: The First Answer Is Usually Right
In multiple choice questions, your first instinct is usually correct. Don't change answers unless you're 100% sure.
Research shows: Students who change answers often change from right to wrong.
Secret 5: Vocabulary Is More Important Than Grammar
In Speaking, vocabulary (25%) is slightly easier to improve than grammar (25%). Focus on learning 3-5 new words daily rather than complex grammar rules.
Quick wins: Learn 5 topic-specific words per topic. Use them in your next practice.
Secret 6: Practice Speaking to Yourself
You don't need a partner to practice Speaking. Talk to yourself in English:
15 minutes daily = massive improvement in 4 weeks.
Secret 7: Read the Question 3 Times
Before answering any question, read it 3 times:
This prevents silly mistakes.
Secret 8: Use "Template" Paragraphs
For Writing Task 2, have a mental template:
Introduction: Paraphrase + state opinion
Body 1: Point + explain + example
Body 2: Point + explain + example
Conclusion: Restate opinion
This saves time and ensures structure.
Secret 9: The Night Before Matters More Than You Think
7-8 hours of sleep improves your cognitive function by 20-30%. Studying late the night before actually HURTS your performance.
Rule: No studying after 9 PM the night before the exam.
Secret 10: Take at Least 3 Full Mock Tests
Before your real exam, take at least 3 full 60-minute practice tests under timed conditions. This builds stamina and familiarity.
